Dear friend, have you ever observed a spider? It is different from other insects because it spins a web. And, you definitely know why it does that. This way it catches its prey and eats it. The web can catch many different insects. But did you know, that in Australia there lives a spider which is called a Sydney funnel-web spider. Just like any other spider, it also weaves a web, but not to catch prey. This web acts as an alarm system, which tells the spider that there is prey nearby. So when something touches the web, the spider feels the vibration, and immediately attacks its prey from its hiding place. Many insects fall for its trap.

Have you ever thought that you might also fall in to a spider’s trap? For you the trap could be your unplanned action. Your reaction towards certain situations can easily turn against you. And if you don't stop on time, it will be difficult for you to get out of it. The Bible says, “The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast.” (Proverbs 5:22)

For example, your little sister ate your candy. You became angry and you feel that your fury begins to consume your heart. But STOP! This is a TRAP! If you do not stop, this small incident can grow into a large argument. You can begin to call your sister names and, even worse, you can hit her. Of course your sister acted badly, but you can forgive her. Will you let one little candy be the reason for the spider to destroy your relationships with the one you love?

Here is another situation. You and your friend are building a tower from Lego's. Both of you have a great plan of how the tower should look like. Neither of you wants to budge. You want the roof to be red, and your friend wants it to be green. And so you begin to argue, you do not listen to your friend and insist on your plan. But STOP! This is a TRAP!  If you do not halt, all of this can turn into a fight. Your friend will go home with hurt feelings, and the tower will be left unfinished. It will be better if you discuss with your friend how the tower will be built. Maybe it will have a green roof, the way your friend want it, and a red fence, the way you want it. The Bible says, “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (Amos 3:3)

Here is yet another situation. Your dad promised to take you to Pizzeria in the evening. You waited for this the whole day. But your dad came home late in the evening, and you didn’t go anywhere. You were very disappointed and decided not to talk to your dad. But STOP! This is a TRAP!  Your dad is even more disappointed that he could not keep his promise. He did not know that he would have to work late. Instead of being angry, go to your father and hug him. Your dad will find the time and you will go to the movies, and to the zoo and the pizzeria. The Bible says, “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” (Proverbs 12:25)

Dear friend, do not allow the spider to trap you. Be smarter than the spider! If you have fallen into the trap, and anger fills your heart, and your bitterness is trying to escape outside, your ego and stubbornness are destroying friendship, you can always turn in prayer to God, so that he could help you understand and forgive. The Bible says, “The Lord is my helper.” (Hebrews 13:6)  Know that there is a way out of any trap! The Bible says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13)

And now, pray with us this prayer: “Almighty God, I have sinned, forgive me. Thank you, for Jesus Christ your Son, who died for my sins. ‘Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me’. (Psalms 51: 12) In Jesus Name. Amen."
