A Thankful Heart

Dear friend, how often do you say “thank you”? Do you thank your mom for delicious meals? Of course you do! Do you thank your dad for reading a book for you? We hope you do! Do you give thanks to God? No? And you do not even know what He is to be thanked for? The Lord created the heavens and the earth, all animals and plants, and He rules this world. He also created people. And just like a caring Father He never leaves them. We are going to tell you a story about God and how He came to help in a hopeless situation. Do you remember the story about Moses? He was a man of God who spoke face to face with the Lord and wrote down the Ten Commandments. And so…

When Moses was eighty years old, God told him to deliver Israel out of Egyptian slavery. And God promised him to bring them into the Promised Land – the land where they would be free. God Himself led them: “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night”. (Exodus 13:21) However, their path was not easy because it lay through the desert. Do you know what a desert is? A desert is a place without food or water, and the sand seems to be endless. There was not even a single store around. But God was with them; He took care of the people. Every morning God would send them food, the manna from heaven: “When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with it”.  (Numbers 11:9) The people went out to gather it and made delicious thin pancakes. It was a true miracle!

And just like back then, so also today God can perform miracles. God calls Himself the bread of life. Jesus says, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst”. (John 6:35) All our hope is in Him. Just like God led the people of Israel into the Promised Land, He leads us into eternal life. Jesus says:” I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

God is with us for all eternity and not this life only. We have eternal life if we believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead on the third day. If you believe this, you become a part of His family. He will take care of you and never leave you. You are His! You can thank Him for that.

Now you can have a thankful heart, even when it rains outside and you feel sad, or when you are hurt and feel lonely. Remember that God is always near and ready to help you.

Pray with us: “Thank you Lord for your care and love. Help me have a thankful heart. Thank you for my mom and dad. Bless my entire family. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen”.
