Don’t be afraid-I am with you

Dear friend, everyone dreams of a place without pain, war, sickness, and bad news. Where can we find that shelter? And does it even exist? We are going to tell you a story from the Bible about a man who found a safe place.

This man was Noah. It was so many years ago that it is hard to recall when it all happened. People lived on earth, created families and built cities. But the Bible says that nobody sought after God, nor did they worship or serve Him. “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5) Wickedness grew stronger all the more. “So the Lord said, ‘I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them’.” (Genesis 6:7) Only Noah was righteous in the eyes of God. He loved the Lord and always did what God commanded him.

One day God spoke to Noah. He revealed His plan to Noah that He would destroy the world with a great flood. However, God promised Noah to save him and his family. God commanded Noah to build a large ship that the Bible calls the ark. The ark was very large and resembled one of today’s three-deck ships. Can you guess why it was so big? God told Noah to take with him into the ark a pair of every kind of bird and animal to inhabit the earth after the flood. Noah built the ark for many years. Yet, there was no sign that would foretell the coming of the flood. People laughed at Noah and his unwavering obedience to God in building the ark. And even then Noah was obedient to God in all things.

When the ark was finally ready, the Lord said: “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.” (Genesis 7:1) When Noah, his family and all of the animals went into the ark the waters of the flood came. How greatly astonished must have been all other people when the flood began. “On that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened.” (Genesis 7:11) People looked for refuge but could not find it. It was too late. The flood continued for forty days and forty nights. Nobody survived. Only Noah and his family were safe. The ark was the only safe place because God was with them.
Dear friend, where can we find refuge in the midst of the troubled waters of this world? Just as the ark was the only salvation for Noah and his family so Jesus Christ is the only salvation for us. Only in Him can we find our refuge from the coming judgement of God. “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:36) How can we come to Jesus as our shield and refuge? Just like Noah was obedient to God and entered the ark, so you need to trust God and accept Jesus with all of your heart. And this is how you will be hidden in Jesus Christ. Noah remained in the ark for one year and seventeen days.

When the water left, Noah and his family came out of the ark with all of the animals. They gave thanks to the Lord for their wonderful salvation. “And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth’.” (Genesis 9:1) The Lord gave the rainbow as a promise that there would never be a great flood like that on earth again. “And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth’.” (Genesis 9:12-13)

Dear friend, now every time when you see a rainbow you can remember the wonderful salvation of Noah and his family. Pray with us: “Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ, in Whom I have refuge, defense and salvation. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.”
